Mike & I attended ‘Over-clocking competition’ by DANAWA on last Saturday.
There are two fields - i5 and i7. We attended i7 field.

For details about the competition, see the attached.

Total 20 team (i5 ? 10 team, i7 ? 10 team) attended.
Intel announced one extreme line-up of i5 and i7 processors for over-clocking.
Its CPU clock multiplier is almost unlimited.

In this competition, these processors were used with MSI M/B.
Air- or liquid-cooling was permitted. Nitro-nitrogen cooling was not permitted.

Evaluation is done by CPU-Z (Clock speed), Super Pi (simple calculation) & Cinebench (image rendering).
For fair competition, all three test should be checked serially because CPU-Z & Super-Pi results can be obtained easily, but Cinebench’s cannot.
But, since they checked one by one, there could be a tricky result.
One judge said that we got top value of Cinebench. ? Our setting was stable!!!
But, we couldn’t rank even in 3rd. -_-“ ? It’s non-sense!

Some pictures.

Testbed.

We used Koolance’s cooling solution. It was great.

Some team who used air-cooling should cool the system with the hand fan (부채), but we don’t need to do anything about cooling.

We carried the cooling solution in the lab without any modification. Just CPU retention guide was different (for socket 1156).

Here is DANAWA’s official review of this competition.

Even if we couldn’t rank and there was something weird in event management, it was fun~. ?
We will try extreme over-clocking once more with X5680 in the lab this week.
